Green Thumb Theatre is seeking a Lower Mainland-based Sound Designer to execute the sound design for Green Thumb Theatre’s tour of THE CODE written and directed by Rachel Aberle, touring into high schools and venues in our 2021-22 season.

About the show:

Moira takes pride in standing up for what she believes in. But after spearheading a protest at school that results in the spring dance being cancelled, she receives cruel messages online and at school. Luckily her best friends Simon and Connor have her back – until Simon reveals his romantic feelings towards Moira, which she doesn’t return. Feeling “friend-zoned”, Simon joins the barrage of hurtful comments, and Connor is forced to take a hard look at where his loyalties lie. With humour and nuance, THE CODE challenges teens to hold themselves accountable for their words and actions, and consider what’s at stake when lines are crossed.

The Stage Manager will run sound cues from QLab through two left/right speakers on the gym floor. Please note that the show should also be able to function without the L/R capability if the sound system is reduced during set up. The Designer should be aware that the typical venue will be a large gymnasium. The show is contemporary, with social media notification sounds running through iPods on stage. The Designer will be required to compile pre-show music, intro, transition and ending music and be familiar with QLab in order to make timing adjustments as needed. Some cues will involve recorded lines from the actors, layering of music and SFX cues. A QLab license and computer can be made available to the Designer for the duration of the contract if needed in order to build the layered and complex cues.

*Please note, if you have applied as a Designer to Green Thumb Theatre within the last 12 months, you are only required to send an updated resume ,if applicable, and any other information that you would like to share can be provided  in the body of the email. COVID-19 and cancellation:

This tour will only move forward if the Theatre has the ability to tour into schools in our 2021-22 season. The Theatre will make every effort to keep the Designer apprised of this schedule. All work that has already been completed by the Designer will be paid out if the tour is cancelled/rescheduled.
