Green Thumb Theatre is accepting submissions from Lower Mainland based performers for Green Thumb Theatre’s tour of Like It or Not, a new comedy by Katey Hoffman, directed by Rachel Aberle.
This initial tour will be taking place in the Lower Mainland, touring into elementary schools in the fall of 2021.
Initial round of auditions for Like It or Not will be taking place via Zoom.
Production dates: *SUBJECT TO CHANGE
Rehearsals beginning October 14, 2021
Opening: November 8, 2021
Closing: December 10, 2021
All artists will be engaged under the CTA, specifically Article 55: Theatre for Young Audiences.
About the show:
Zoey and Leah are best friends. They have been inseparable since kindergarten. But at the beginning of grade six something has changed. Leah begins to hang out with Makayla, a fellow fashionista (and most popular girl in school!), and soon finds herself buying new outfits and posting pictures on her new fashion app, in the hopes of gaining “likes” and “followers”. This new comedy from the author of Green Thumb’s hit, WHAT IF, takes a close look at how young people can become preoccupied with their perception of who they are and how they are seen, both on social media and in school. Join Zoey, Leah, Makayla, Coach Dana, Mom and Madame LaGrange as they try to understand the pressures of finding out who you are in a world that is obsessed with body image and social media “likes”.
Roles to be cast (3 actors):
* Please note: all characters will be portrayed by adult actors
Zoey:
11-years-old. Leah’s best friend. Gregarious, the life of the party, class clown. Wears grass-stained denim and loves soccer.
Leah:
11-years-old. Zoey’s Best Friend. Shy, smart, artistic, lives in Zoey’s shadow. Wears glasses and loves fashion.
Makayla/Coach Dana/Zoey’s Mom/Madame LaGrange:
Makayla: The coolest grade six girl. She has vocal fry and wears massive, ridiculous sunglasses even indoors.
Madame LaGrange: Larger-than-life. She drinks A LOT of espresso.
Zoey’s Mom: Extremely stressed-out mother who is always holding two babies. She speaks through a plastered-on smile and doesn’t have the time or mental capacity to listen to anyone.
Coach Dana: A very intense and competitive soccer coach. She speaks with a Texas-ish accent.
