SHOWDOWN is one of the most beloved and requested plays in the Green Thumb catalogue. Rex and Becky have been friends forever. Pushed to be ‘the best’ by his dad, Rex is practicing intensely to make the all-star hockey team, to the detriment of his school work and his friendships. Becky is a star, too; a star student determined to win the spelling bee. She’s always working to be the top of the class, to impress her parents and to be as good as, or better than, her older sister. Enter Marshall, a happy-go-lucky kid who, though a little quirky, just wants to have friends and to fit into his new school. But Marshall’s high marks make him a threat to Becky and cause a rift in her friendship with Rex, who’s just happy to have a new buddy to play hockey with. Throughout Showdown, these three kids learn to deal with the challenges and rewards of competition and cooperation. Showdown is about being happy with who you are, about success and cooperation and about being true to your friends. This production is a humorous and touching story about acceptance and friendship.
