JOB POSTING | Sound Designer - Contract

Contract Position

Application Deadline June 10th, 2021
Posted: May 12th, 2021

Green Thumb Theatre is seeking a Lower Mainland based sound designer to execute the sound design for Green Thumb Theatre’s tour of Like it or Not by Katey Hoffman, directed by Rachel Aberle, touring into elementary schools in our 2021-22 season.

About the show:

Zoey and Leah are best friends. They have been inseparable since kindergarten. But at the beginning of grade six something has changed. Leah begins to hang out with Makayla, a fellow fashionista (and most popular girl in school!), and soon finds herself buying new outfits and posting pictures on her new fashion app, in the hopes of gaining “likes” and “followers”. This new comedy from the author of last year’s hit, WHAT IF, takes a close look at how young people can become preoccupied with their perception of who they are and how they are seen, both on social media and in school. Join Zoey, Leah, Madame Lagrange, Makayla, and Coach Dana as they try to understand the pressures of finding out who you are in a world that is obsessed with body image and social media “likes”.

The designer should be aware that the typical venue will be a large gymnasium. At current, the director is interested in exploring having the intro, various short transition music moments and end music composed or pulled, depending on candidate’s portfolio and skillset. There are also various sound cues (school bells, etc) throughout the piece. The director is currently looking for a pop/cartoony vibe for this tour for young audiences.
