We are a governance Board, overseeing the policies, procedures, and financial well-being of Green Thumb Theatre. The Board is largely composed of individuals who work in the arts, education and social services, or businesses and corporations - but we welcome volunteers from any sector who share our enthusiasm.
- The board has approximately 9 meetings annually, most ofwhich are conducted online, with some in-person events, where the businessmeeting is followed by a meal and social exchange. Additionally, in-person attendance isexpected at Green Thumb’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).
- Board members are requested not to miss more than 2consecutive meetings in a year.
- Each board member should be prepared to volunteer for committee work, which might entail a handful of extra virtual meetings per year; committees are formed on an ad-hoc basis as required by the needs and growth of the organization.
- Board members are encouraged to attend at least 2 Green Thumb performances per year, and we try to provide opportunities (outside of workhours) for board members to do this.
- Within the limits of their ability and their comfort zone, board members are expected to make a personally significant financial donation to the organization on an annual basis. Setting up a monthly donation to Green Thumb is encouraged, and is easily arranged through Canada Helps at www.canadahelps.org
- Supporting a company that has influenced over 4 million young people, over almost 50 years, in every province and 2 territories in Canada, 36 US states, as well as 11 other countries worldwide.
- Contributing to new Canadian theatre through commissions, workshops and new play development.
- Working with a team of talented individuals to promote a world-class theatre company.
- Supporting a company that serves youth, by providing access to live professional theatre experiences directly, within their schools and communities.
Green Thumb Theatre is a force within the field of theatre for young audiences, not only in British Columbia but across the country and throughout the world. Green Thumb Theatre creates, produces, and tours plays that explore social issues relevant to the lives of children, youth, and young adults. We provide theatre that celebrates the language and stories of today’s generation and culture to stimulate empathy, debate, and critical thinking.
Green Thumb's offices are located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. As a touring company, Green Thumb Theatre’s work often takes place throughout the traditional homelands of most of the Indigenous Nations and cultures across British Columbia and beyond.
